How to Make Your Android Phone Run Faster
Three Methods:Turning Off the Animation on Your Android DeviceClosing Unused Recent ApplicationsClearing the Applications' CacheCommunity Q&A
Most Android smartphones are prone to slowing down over time. However, this issue is not unique to Android. Devices running on iOS also encounter the same problem. The reason for the problem is almost too simple to be true: your Android phone does not have the same applications or the same settings it had a year ago. The good news is there are ways and means to manage your applications and settings to make your Android phone run as fast as it once did.
1
Turning Off the Animation on Your Android Device
-
1Hit the app drawer button on your homescreen. This will open a list that shows all the installed applications in your device.
-
2Go to Settings. Just look for the gear icon, and tap on it. This will open a menu with a list of settings options.
-
3Select “About Phone” among the options. Scroll down through the list, and tap on “About Phone” to open another screen with information about your device.
-
4Find the build number. Scroll down to find the build number, which is usually near the bottom of the list.
-
5Tap on the build number seven times. This will enable the Developer Options for your device. You will receive a notification for the same on your screen.
-
6Go back to the previous screen. Tap the Back button of your device and you will return to the Settings menu.
-
7Find “Developer Options” and tap on it. This will open the Developer Options screen. By default, Developer Options will be turned off.
-
8Turn on the Developer Options. Do so by toggling the top-right switch button. A pop-up will then ask if you would like to allow developer settings. Click on “OK.”
-
9Turn off Window animation. To do that, tap on “Window animation scale” to open a pop-up with options listed. Select “Animation off” to turn off Window animation.
-
10Turn off Transition animation and Animator duration. Find these options and select “Animation off” to turn them off.

Closing Unused Recent Applications
-
1Click on the multitasking button on your device. This button varies from one device to the next.
- For example, in Nexus 4, the rightmost capacitive button is the multitasking button.
-
2See what open applications are running. Clicking on the multitasking button will display the recent applications menu where you will find open applications running in the background.
-
3Close the applications you don’t need. To do so, pick the applications that you no longer need, and swipe the application either to the right or to the left to close it.
- This will free up the RAM which the application was consuming earlier. Freeing up the RAM means faster processing.
-
1Hit the app drawer button on your home screen. This will open up the view which shows all the installed applications in your device.
-
2Go to Settings. Just look for the gear icon, and tap on it. This will open a menu with a list of settings options.
-
3Tap on “Apps/Applications.” You will find this option from the Settings menu options. You will be presented with all the applications installed in your system.
-
4Click on any application. This will open the details page of the application.
-
5Click on “Clear cache.” This will clear the cache for the application, and free up extremely precious system resource to be used by the device.
- Unburdening the cache will result in faster processing.
- 6Repeat the process for other applications. Clear the cache for every unneeded application. Your device will then get much more system resource for faster processing, and your Android will work as fast as before.
